C} L. <br />City Manager Sokoll requested.authority to advertise for bids to con- <br />struct two new tennis courts at Culbertson Park. 'Darren Leddick, <br />Director of Parks and Recreation reviewed the matter with the-Council. <br />Motion was made by Councilman Wunsch, seconded by.Councilman Philley <br />to authorize the bids. Motion carried 7 ayes 0 nays. <br />Mayor Malone announced that Carl Shimek, consulting Engineer, would <br />present a report regarding the City's water system. Mr.-Shimek pre- <br />sented copies of the report to the Council and reviewed the most <br />important points as well as a two phrase recommendation contained <br />within the printed report. Councilman Farris moved to receive the report. <br />Councilman Wunsch seconded the motion which carried 7 ayes 0 nays. <br />Mayor Malone announced the next item would be a presentation by re- <br />presentatives of the Tree Committee. Nora Hayter spoke for the group <br />requesting the Council to consider passinq a resolution which would <br />be a more direct statement, concerning) trees and landscaping in new <br />developments in the City, than that presently used. City Attorney Haynes <br />read the resolution submitted by the Committee. Councilman Farris made <br />a motion to -have a resolution drafted in proper form for consideration <br />at the next regular meeting. Councilman Wunsch seconded the motion <br />which carried 7 ayes 0 nays. <br />Mayor Malone then stated that Dr. Clarence Temple would make a present- <br />ation concerning an all weather track for the community. Dr. Temple <br />stated the need for such a facility which could be used by the community <br />for jogging and by the school system for athletic events. He presented <br />a plan for the track, which would be located on the Paris High School <br />property and would be improved with an 8 lane, 400 meter track, lighting, <br />bleachers, restrooms, etc.,'and at a later date expanded to a full stadium <br />for football purposes. He went on to say that he was seeking support <br />f3'r the facility so that he could proceed to investigate federal assist- <br />ance in the form of grants from the Parks and Wildlife Dept. He felt that <br />a 50 q grant was possible and that matching funds could be locally <br />generated. Councilman Wunsch suggested discussion by the City /School <br />Committee which was agreed upon and the Council expressed a favorable <br />feeling to Dr. Temple on the project. <br />Resolution No. 1925 authorizing condemnation of an easement involved <br />in the Northside Drainage Project was presented. Councilman 14iliiams <br />made a motion for adoption of the Resolution. Councilman Burnett seconded <br />the motion which carried 1 ayes 0 nays. <br />
