Regular City Council Meeting April 14, 2008 Page 2 Bruce Staples, Oak Creek Addition - asked that the speed limit be reduced at the intersection of 195 and Oak Creek, because there had been thirteen accidents in the last five years. Doyle Whitaker, 3000 Margaret - he said he signed the initiative petition as did his son, without reading it and it was a mistake. He also said the petition was not explained to him. Mr. Whitaker said he and his son wanted to remove their names from the petition. He presented Council with affidavits executed by he and his son, Chris Whitaker. 5. Introductions, announcements, and recognitions. a. Proclamation declaring "PJC Dragons Basketball Day." Mayor Freelen presented a proclamation to Coach Ross Hodge declaring PJC Dragons Basketball Day and recognizing the outstanding achievements of the basketball team. Mayor Freelen announced the PJC men's basketball team continued its team and individual successes with a record number of victories, Region XIV title, and an 8`h place finish in the NJCAA national tournament. Consent Agenda Mayor Freelen inquired if there were any items that Council Members wanted to pull from the Consent Agenda for discussion. Council Member Brown asked for corrections to item 6. He referenced page one and said Erin Jenkins should be changed to Aaron Jenkins. He also referenced page six and stated that Mr. Waters should be Mr. McWaters. Council Member Wilson asked that item 12. be moved forward for discussion. 12. Deliberate and acceptance of March financial report. Council Member Wilson pointed out that expenses were up by over $900,000.00 from last year at this time. Gene Anderson referred Council to the comment sheet that reflected which departments had increased their spending from last year. He pointed out that all departments were under the fifty percent mark in their budget, with the exception of the police department. 6. Deliberate and act on the approval of minutes from the meeting on March 24, 2008. 7. Receive and deliberate on reports and/or minutes from the following boards, commissions, and committees: a. City Council Task Force on Code Enforcement (2-19-2008,3-4-2008, and 3 -18- 2008). b. Traffic Commission (4 -1- 2008). C. Paris Living (3 -12- 2008).
