Item No. 11 <br />memorandum <br />TO: City Council <br />John Godwin, City Manager <br />FROM: Bob Hundley, Chief of Police <br />SUBJECT: ABTPA GRANT APPLICATION FOR 2014 <br />DATE: April 20, 2015 <br />BACKGROUND: The City of Paris began the Northeast Texas Auto Theft Task Force, with the <br />assistance of ABTPA, in September of 1994. Since that time, for 21 consecutive years, the City <br />of Paris has been approved in continuing with the Task Force under this grant. There are two <br />Paris police detectives assigned to the Task Force paid for by this grant. These officers are <br />allowed to investigate auto thefts and auto burglaries in a number of counties in the Northeast <br />Texas area. Many times, criminals operate beyond jurisdictional lines. <br />STATUS OF ISSUE: The 2015 grant application is for the amount of $186,489.00. Council has <br />to approve the application for the grant and authorize the manager to complete certain documents <br />which must be submitted by May 22nd. The ABTPA requires a resolution from the governing <br />body for the grant application. <br />BUDGET: The grant application will require a $40,295.00 cash match along with a $1000.00 <br />`in -kind match' in the 2015 -2016 police department budget. <br />RECOMMENDATION: Motion to approve a resolution authorizing the grant application to the <br />Automobile Burglary and Theft Prevention Authority for continuation of the Northeast Texas <br />Auto Theft Task Force and authorizing the City Manager to execute all necessary documents. <br />
