Item No. 6 memorandum TO: Mayor & City Council John Godwin, City Manager FROM: Janice Ellis, City Clerk SUBJECT: GENERAL ELECTION CANVASSING OF RETURNS DATE: May 12, 2015 BACKGROUND: On January 9, 2015, by resolution number 2015 -004, City Council ordered the regular municipal election for the purpose of voters to elect Council Members from Districts 4, 5, and 7. STATUS OF ISSUE: On May 9, 2015, a general election was held in the city. In District 4, a total of 363 votes were cast, with Richard Grossnickle receiving a total of 127 votes and Steve Clifford receiving a total of 236 votes. Steve Clifford received the majority of votes in District 4. In District 5, a total of 127 votes were cast, with Grover "Michael" Glatfelter receiving a total of 6 votes; with Matt Frierson receiving a total of 64 votes and Linda Sue Knox receiving a total of 57 votes. Matt Frierson received the majority of votes in District 5. In District 7, a total of 788 votes were cast, with A.J. Hashmi receiving a total of 407 votes and Denise Hutto Moffitt receiving a total of 381 votes. A.J. Hashmi received the majority of votes in District 7. BUDGET: N/A RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution declaring Steve Clifford elected to serve as City Council Member for District 4; Matt Frierson elected to serve as City Council Member for District 5; and A.J. Hashmi elected to serve as City Council Member for District 7.
