FREESE AND
NICHOLS:
HELPING YOU
PROTECT YOUR
WATER SUPPLY
Innovative approaches . .
Fre•s• —d Nichols
practical results
S78
QUALITY CONTROUQUALITY ASSURANCE
QUALITY CON.TROUQUALITY ASSURANCE .... AT WORK FOR YOU
As with most professional consulting firms, FNI provides a formal quality control/
quality assurance (QC/QA) program. In substance, this program differs little from
those offered by other consultants. The area that sets us apart is our implementation
of the QC /QA program.
QC /QA Program
Quality control reviews are scheduled for most projects at the 10 -, 50- and 90-
percent complete milestones. These reviews are conducted our by senior technical
leaders and completed for all client deliverables — plans, specifications, cost
estimates, studies, reports, etc. The goal of the review is to check for sound
technical principles and accuracy. Most reviews are multi - disciplinary and those
with construction adjuncts are also reviewed for constrUctability.
Quality assurance reviews are completed by senior management leaders who first
ensure that a technical quality review has been completed, and then proceed to
look at the project from a wider perspective. The review addresses such topics as
project schedule, availability of adequate resources and staffing, clearly defined
deliverables, client reviews, unique or critical aspects of the project, regulatory
needs, alternate design concepts and the overall quality of the work and services
provided to the client.
QC /QA Implementation
The implementation of FNI's QC /QA program is part of FNI's culture. Monthly
Quality Days, are held during which senior managers sit down with individual
projects managers to review their projects. This exchange with senior "mentors" is
invaluable to project staff and contribute to the Success of the projects. Training
sessions are held during lunch on Quality Days, and staff members who have
received the highest scores on client satisfaction surveys are recognized.
Quality Days Emphasis:
• Definition of quality is technically accurate and consistently meets or exceeds
the client's needs and expectations
• Technical accuracy /consistently and proactively reviewed
• Continuous improvement is integral in doing business and managing projects
• Quality is customer driven and judged by our clients.
Client Benefits:
Through the implementation of FNI's QC /QA program, clients enjoy:
• Projects with few, if any, change orders
• Projects, studies and reports designed and written to meet client expectations
The benefit of senior level staff input on each project deliverable.
Vulnerability Assessment and Emergency Response Plan SOQ page 8
