812
VI. Summation:
Calculation of the Total Technical Potential for reducing municipal per capita water
use is determined by adding the individual technical potential amounts in items I through V
above. The following table is a summary of these calculations for the City of Paris water
system:
Conservation Measure
Calculation Procedure
Results
Reducing unaccounted -for
(Dry-year demand) X
0 to 1.87 gpcd
uses
(Unacc. -for percentage if
over 15 %, minus 15%
Reducing indoor water use
20.5 gpcd (Most likely) to
20.5 to 21.7 gpcd
due to water- efficient
21.7 gpcd (Advanced) as
plumbing fixtures
determined by the TNRCC
Reducing seasonal water
Seasonal use (Avg. use X
2.64 to 7.55 gpcd
use
20% ) X 7% and 20%
Reducing water use through
Average use X 2% and 5%
3.77 to 9.44 gpcd
public education programs
Reducing dry-year irrigation
Dry-year irrigation use
2.04 to 3.88 gpcd
use
(Dry-year demand - Avg.
use) X 10.5% and 20%
Total Technical Savings
28.95 to 44.44 gpcd
Potential
To determine the long -term planning goal, these totals are subtracted from the
year water demand (208.1 gpcd for Paris).
Long -term planning goal = (Dry-year demand) minus (Total Technical Potential)
= 208.1 gpcd - 28.95 gpcd = 179.15 gpcd ( "Most Likely" conservation scenario)
= 208.1 gpcd - 44.44 gpcd = 163.66 gpcd ( "Advanced" conservation scenario)
nning goal for municipal water use = 179.15 to 163.66
These goals are based on a potential reduction in total municipal gallons per capita
per day demand by the year 2050. Some of these conservation measures, such as
retrofitting of water - conserving plumbing fixtures, will not be realized in the early years of
the goal but will result in increasing benefit as we approach the year 2050 when more
older homes are re- plumbed and future new homes constructed. A tentative schedule to
achieve 100% of the goal by the year 2050 would be: 10% by 2010, 25% by 2020, 50%
by 2030, 75% by 2040 and 100% by 2050.
Prepared by: City of Paris Environmental Services Division, December, 1999
9
