Mayor Clifford said they had directed City Attorney Haynes to take the appropriate action to either get these wrecking yards in compliance, or close them down. Councilman Neeley brought up a question regarding ventage or classic cars, and stated that he would like something placed in the ordinance protecting those who have this type of vehicle. Mayor Clifford said that the older cars like that, if they will take the car and place it in the backyard behind a fence so it can not be seen from the public road, then that is acceptable per the City Police Chief, Karl Louis. Councilman Hunt raised a question regarding people who just do not have the funds to meet the compliance of the code. City Attorney Haynes advised that arrangements have been made for removal of vehicles at no cost to those who can not afford the cost of removal, which the City has been doing this for a long time. After further discussion, a motion was made by Councilman Fulbright, seconded by Councilwoman Elder authorizing preparation of an ordinance amending Zoning Ordinance No. 1710 requiring screening of Wrecking and Salvage Yards. The motion carried 7 ayes, 0 nays.
