Bill Powers, President of the Reno Volunteer Fire Department, and
Bubba Coston, Fire 'Chief, appeared before the Council telling them
they were interest in doing is setting up a rural fire prevention
district in the eastern part of the County, it would include the City
of Reno, and an areas north, east and south of there coming back to the
city limits of the City of Paris. One of the thing they would have to
have is permission from Reno, Sun Valley, and the City of Paris because
the City of Paris has an exterritorial jurisdictions which means two
miles out we have to have permission if we want to come in within the
two miles of the city limits. Basically the City of Paris would be
giving up nothing, and what they hope to do by creating a rural fire
pretention district is be able to provide fire protection for the
people in the area.
Steve Burgin, Fire Chief, came forward telling the Council we now cover
one mile from the Paris City limits with one fire truck. Mr. Burgin
said the Reno Volunteer Fire Department is not connected with the City
of Reno, it is a totally volunteer structure. Their interest is fire
protection in that area, they are one of the top groups in the area,
they have a fully trained department, and are our closest assistance in
the County, but what they do not have is the very large fire
equipment. Mr. Burgin said his interest in this is it may bring their
department up, and it could be a real asset to the City of Paris. This
could also effect the Key Rate in the area, and yes he was in favor of
the rural fire prevention district.
Councilman Brown questioned annexation, and wanted to know if this
should it be done before the redistricting?
Mayor Fisher said this could be a part of the consideration for the
Committee on redistricting to look at with recommendations from staff.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
GE GE FISHER, MAYOR, CIT F IS
ATTEST:
M TTIE CUNNINGHAM, CITY CLERK
786
