f
MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL
January 26, 1983
The City Council of the City of Paris met in special
January 26, 1983 at 5 :15 P. M. in the Council Room o
Graham called the meeting to order withthe following
W. C. Francis, Donald G. Wilson, George Fisher, Jr.,
Also present were Acting City Manager, H. C. Greene,
Clerk, Joe N. McCollum.
session, Wednesday,
f City Hal 1 . Mayor __ J
Councilmen present:
and Larry McGee.
and Acting City
Mayor Graham stated the purpose of the meeting was to consider
authorization to advertise for bids for pumps for the Sewer Lift
Station.
Acting City Manager Greene advised the Council that an emergency
situation exists at the Campbell Lift Station in that the pumps are down
at the present time.
Dan Brotton, Director of Public Works, stated that this station had been
down on several occasions in the past twelve months for various reasons,
but the primary reason being that the present pump is "-too small to
handle the flow and has to run constantly resulting in burning out of
the motor.
He state he had located two 8 ", 60 HP used pumps which could be
purchased for $7,200.00 and would have a 1 year warrant which could
be delivered within two weeks.
He explained that the two 8" pumps would provide adequate flow at
the Campbell Station and increase the capacity at the Woodard Station
to handle the increased flow generated by the Kimberly Clark Plant.
An alternate plan would be to purchase a new 6" pump to replace the
one at the Campbell Station and wait to correct the situation at the
Woodard Station. This would be the least expensive, approximately
$5,000.00 for the two. Delivery of a new pump would take from 6 to 8
weeks.
City Attorney Haynes entered the Council Room at this, point and took
his seat.
Mr. Brotton recommended buying the two 8" pumps as it would solve
two problems.
Following discussion, Councilman Wilson made a motion to authorize
emergency purchase of the two 8" pumps if delivery could be made
within 3 weeks and to authorize bids for a new 6 ", 30 HP pump
should delivery time be longer. Councilman McGee seconded the motion
which carried 5 ayes, 0 nays.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
i
JOE GRAHAM, MAYOR, CITY-OF PARIS
ATTEST:
JOE N.
