City Manager Sweatt advised the Council of the receipt of petitions containing ap- <br />proximately 235 signatures requesting consideration by the City of acquisition of <br />Springlake Golf Course. Mr. Ennis Richardson, 426 .30th N. E., appeared before the <br />Council in behalf of the petitioners as well as Mr. C. E. Ruff, 290 Johnson Woods <br />Drive, and Mr. Albert King. <br />Mr. R. H. McDougal, owner of Elk Hollow Golf Club, appeared before the Council, <br />stating that he had planned 9 additional holes to his golf course, but he would <br />abandon the idea if the City had plans to "get into the golf course business ". <br />A motion was made by Councilman Moore and seconded by Councilman King to receive-- <br />the petition and make it part of the Council minutes. The motion carried: 6 ayes, <br />0 nays. -. <br />After discussion, Mayor Brunette appointed :at committee composed of Councilman Rainey, <br />Councilman more and City.Manager.Sweatt to study the possibility and feasibility = <br />of the City.acquiring the.golf course, and requested a..repart from the committee <br />upon completion of their. investigative: <br />City Manager Sweatt-invited the attention of the Council to a- proposed contract <br />between the Chamber of ce and'the City of Paris, concerning the promoting <br />-and advertising of the City of Paris and recommended -its approval. <br />Resolution No. 1737, autherizing.and directing Mayor. Brunette to execute on behalf <br />of the City of Paris a contract with the Chamber of Commerce of Lamar- County and <br />the City of Paris and appointing.a committee consisting of the mayor of the City <br />of Paris; City Manager K. R. Sweatt, and Councilman Lloyd S. Sterling to serve <br />as a cor ittee to review and approve the proposed program of work of the Chamber <br />of Commerce under the contract, was presented. A motion was made by Councilman <br />Rainey and seconded by Councilman King for the adoption of the resolution.
