1378 <br />Regular Council Meeting <br />August 22, 2011 <br />Page 5 <br />OTHER FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS RELATED TO THE SUBJECT; AND <br />DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />... <br />Mayor Hashmi opened the public hearing and asked for anyone wishing to speak in <br />support of this item to please come forward. PEDC Executive Director Steve Gilbert spoke in <br />support of this item citing that Paris Regional was going to invest 16.5 million dollars in their <br />expansion project. Connie Murchison from Paris Regional Medical Center spoke in support of <br />this item. Mayor Hashmi asked if the 753 jobs referenced were going to be new jobs. Ms. <br />Murchison said they were going to retain 753 existing jobs. Paris Regional's financial consultant <br />Leo Sierra also spoke in support of this item. Mayor Hashmi asked for anyone wishing to speak <br />in opposition of this item to please come forward. With no one else speaking, Mayor Hashmi <br />closed the public hearing. <br />A Motion to invoke the super majority rule was made by Council Member Pickle and <br />seconded by Council Member Wright. Motion carried, 6 ayes — 0 nays. <br />A Motion to approve this item was made by Council Member Frierson and seconded by <br />Council Member Grossnickle. Motion carried, 6 ayes — 0 nays. <br />14. Public hearing, deliberate and possibly act on RESOLUTION NO. 2011 -066: A <br />RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS; <br />ADOPTING FINDINGS OF FACT AND AN ORDER CALLING FOR THE <br />REDISTRICTING OF POLITICAL BOUNDARIES AND CITY COUNCIL <br />DISTRICTS WITHIN THE CITY OF PARIS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE 2010 <br />CENSUS DATA ISSUED BY THE UNITED STATES CENSUS BUREAU AND <br />STATE AND FEDERAL LAW AND SECTION 8 OF THE CITY CHARTER; <br />AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO EXECUTE SAID ORDER AND THE CITY <br />CLERK TO ATTEST TO SAME; MAKING OTHER FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS <br />RELATED TO THE SUBJECT; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />Mayor Hashmi opened the public hearing and asked for anyone wishing to speak in <br />support of this item to please come forward. Council Member <br />Pickle asked what the timeframe was for submitting this information to the Department of <br />Justice. Mr. Bass said that the DOJ needed sixty days for their review and that the City should <br />provide a plan to the DOJ sometime in September. <br />Bob Bass explained Plan 1C. Council Member Frierson said that he was more inclined to <br />go with Plan 1 B for District 5. Council Member Wright said that he would like for District 3 to <br />be more condensed.
