1673
Regular Council Meeting
November 26, 2012
Page 5
16. Discuss and authorize execution of a contract for the demolition and disposal of
dilapidated structures to Sanitation Solutions.
. Mr. Napier said the City put out a request for proposal, published notice in the Paris
News and received one proposal and that proposal was from Sanitation Solutions. He said the
base rate was $29.00 per ton and Sanitation Solutions was giving discounts based on the amount
of money spent. Mr. Napier said in speaking with Mr. Bray, they had discussed moving the
contract period from one year to a three year period and spread the rate for fiscal year spending
to determine the contract spending. Mr. Napier explained that over a three year period the City
would be able to take advantage of these rates and Mr. Bray was in agreement. Mr. Godwin
emphasized with a three year deal the City was much more likely to get to the discounts.
A Motion to authorize the execution of a contract for demolition and disposal of
dilapidated structures to Sanitation Solutions was made by Council Member Frierson and
seconded by Council Member Wright. Motion carried, 7 ayes — 0 nays.
17. Receive report, discuss and possibly act on drainage problem on York Street.
Mr. Napier said nothing had changed since the last report, because there had been no
significant rainfall to allow staff to gauge the progress. He also said that staff members were
scheduled to attend training for the new survey equipment on Friday.
18. Discuss plats, process and development delays.
Mr. Godwin and Mr. Napier explained platting processes and development delays (See
Exhibit "A." Mr. Godwin said it was an important process and that staff was trying to make it
faster and expressed appreciation to Council for their support.
19. Discuss and act on demolition of the Old Animal Shelter and old Police Department
building.
Mr. Godwin said the City had received demolition prices on these buildings and sought
approval to demolish the animal shelter, but wait on the police building because of the price. He
said the animal shelter cost was not much more than the cost of demolition of some the
residential properties. Mayor Hashmi added that inmate help was available to work on the old
police department, perhaps to make it usable for a recreational facility for residents in that area.
A Motion to demolish the old animal shelter was made by Council Member Drake and
seconded by Council Member Lancaster. Motion carried, 7 ayes — 0 nays.
20. Consider and approve future events for City Council and/or City Staff pursuant to
Resolution No. 2004 -081.
