Item No. 17 <br />memorandum <br />TO: Mayor & City Council <br />John Godwin, City Manager <br />FROM: Janice Ellis, City Clerk <br />SUBJECT: APPOINTMENT TO THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION <br />DATE: September 22, 2015 <br />BACKGROUND: Policies and Procedures for Boards, Commissions, and Committees adopted <br />by City Council allow for the appointment of a board member when a vacancy occurs. <br />STATUS OF ISSUE: As directed, staff re- advertised for this vacancy through the city web -site <br />and the Paris News. New Main Street board member Phillip Peeples is serving on HPC in the <br />position reserved for a Main Street board member, leaving one vacancy on the Historic <br />Preservation Commission. City staff has received three applications. Applicants are Anne Biard <br />(7/28/2015); Michael King (7/31/2015); and Pat Conrad (8 -25- 2015). <br />Main Street Coordinator/Historic Preservation Officer Cheri Bedford would like to move <br />forward with training for the HPC, which will be conducted by the State. Ms. Brown from the <br />Texas Historical Commission is willing to travel to Paris to conduct the training but feels that it <br />would be most beneficial to have a full commission in place prior to moving forward. <br />BUDGET: N/A <br />RECOMMENDATION: Appoint one member to fill a vacancy on the Historic Preservation <br />Commission. <br />
