Engineering services were provided by the City Engineer for a number of years
and his services were appreciated. However, recently a few projects that were
managed by the city's engineering department have raised some concerns.
These projects included the fiasco that we had with the Glicks (Recycling Depot);
the management, supervision and oversight of the Church street project by the
city's engineering department; and as recently as the last council meeting the
local government learned that the city lost money over that project and is likely to
have to pay more over the next few months. Finally, the bond project with a lack
of supervision and oversight of the work on the Houston street project and the
possibility that there may be requirement of doing corrections there, have raised
enough concerns that I feel that we need a fresh look from the engineering side
so that we do not end up wasting tax payer funds.
I do not have a problem with the former city engineer working or coordinating on
any project that HWH has with the City, other than the bond water and sewer
project.
