Item No. 21 memorandum TO: City Council John Godwin, City Manager FROM: Jerry McDaniel, Public Works Director SUBJECT: CLARKSVILLE ST. WATER LINE PROJECT DATE: November 19, 2015 BACKGROUND: First United Methodist Church is constructing expansions and improvements to a multi - purpose youth facility located east of their main sanctuary building. The most efficient manner to supply the new fire sprinkler system for the expanded building is off Clarksville, where there is currently insufficient water pressure. Fortunately the water line on Clarksville to which the church wants to connect is planned for replacement as part of Package 4. That work will not begin in a timely manner though, and would cause some of the new work at the church to be damaged. Therefore, we have taken that single segment out and bid it as a separate project to be built immediately. STATUS OF ISSUE: We advertised this sub - project for bids, with the bid opening on November 13. We received two qualified bids: B Bray Construction for $66,151, and S &S Boring for $71,577. Both are qualified contractors, and the prices were within our estimate for the work. BUDGET: Funding available in 2013 utility bond proceeds. RECOMMENDATION: Award bid to B Bray Construction in the amount of $66,151.
