Item No. 21
memorandum
TO: Mayor & City Council
FROM: John Godwin, City Manager
SUBJECT: AIRPORT RENT DELINQUENCIES
DATE: January 4, 2016
BACKGROUND: At the December 17 airport board meeting, the board again discussed its deep
concerns over recurring late rental payments by a few hangar tenants. Historically, the board has
asked the city attorney and /or finance director to send demand letters, after which later payers
often caught up.
STATUS OF ISSUE: However, the board is now asking that the city council instruct the city
attorney to take all measures available to compel full payment, or force eviction. This is
especially important considering we have a waiting list for spaces at the airport.
BUDGET: We are losing rent revenues due to the city.
RECOMMENDATION: Instruct city attorney to pursue all means available to collect rents, up
to and including revocation of leases.
