Item Nos. 14 & 15
memorandum
TO: Mayor & City Council
FROM: John Godwin, City Manager
SUBJECT: AFFORDABLE HOUSING
DATE: January 13, 2016
BACKGROUND: State Street Housing is proposing the construction of a new apartment
complex on the north side of east 82 near Reno city limit. The complex plans to use tax credits
to provide affordable housing. Similarly, LW Development is proposing to build 49 single
family homes in the same area under the same tax credit program administered by the Texas
Department of Housing and Community Affairs.
STATUS OF ISSUE: Representatives of the companies will again be present to provide details
and answer questions about their plans and proposals. Such projects must have the support of
the local governing body to receive the tax credits through a resolution approved by the city
council. This will also be an opportunity for the council to receive public input.
BUDGET: NA
RECOMMENDATION: Approve a resolution of support for either, both or neither companies.
