memorandum <br />TO: City Council <br />John Godwin, City Manager <br />FROM: Bob Hundley, Chief of Police <br />SUBJECT: PROCLAMATION OF NATIONAL POLICE WEEK MAY 15TH _ 21sT <br />DATE: May 9th, 2016 <br />BACKGROUND: In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers <br />Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. <br />Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special <br />recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the <br />safety and protection of others. <br />STATUS OF ISSUE: National Police week has been set this year to begin on May 15, police <br />memorial day and conclude on May 21St. <br />BUDGET: There is no impact to the budget. <br />RECOMMENDATION: Proclaim May 15th through the 21St as Police Week in the city of Paris. <br />
