07 - FUNDING FOR NON-PROFIT AGENCIESItem No. 7 memorandum TO: City Council John Godwin, City Manager FROM: Gene Anderson, Finance Director SUBJECT: FUNDING FOR NON - PROFIT AGENCIES DATE: 9 -20 -2016 BACKGROUND: The City of Paris has traditionally partially funded some non -profit agencies whose services either overlap City services or provide services less expensively than the City could provide those services. Funding requests are made during the budget process with the agencies filling out an application, providing information on the services performed, and providing requested financial information. Agencies funded in the City budget must sign an agreement with the City to provide those funded services. STATUS OF ISSUE: The recently adopted 2016 -17 City budget provided funding for the following non -profit agencies: 1. Lamar County Historical Society $5,000 2. New Hope Center of Paris $10,000 3. Children's Advocacy Center $12,500 4. E Tx Council on Alcohol/Drugs $4,500 5. CASA for Kids $2,500 6. Lamar Co. Human Res. Council $12,000 7. Safe -T Shelter Agencies $5,000 8. NE Texas Trail Coalition $8,000 Total $59,500 The staff is requesting that the City Council authorize the City Manager to execute agreements with the non -profit agencies listed above to perform services for the City. . BUDGET: Money for the above listed agencies is provided in the City's 2016 -17 budget. RECOMMENDATION: Motion to authorize the City Manager to execute agreements with non- profit agencies to perform services for the City.
