2000-016-ORD PROVIDING CODE OF ORDINANCES BE AMENDED BY REVISING SUBSECTION (b) OF SECTION 2-35 OF SAID CODE ORDINANCE NO. 2000-016 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS, PROVIDING THAT THE CODE OF ORDINANCES, CITY OF PARIS, BE AMENDED BY REVISING SUBSECTION (b) OF SECTION 2-35 OF SAID CODE; REVISING THE STATE LAW REFERENCE THEREIN; REVISING THE E}'FECTIVE DATE FOR ELIGIBILITY; MAKING OTHER FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS RELATED TO THE SUBJECT; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Paris did heretofore, on the 11th day of October, 1999, in Ordinance No. 99-075, amend Sec. 2-35 (b) of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Paris by revising the retirement eligibility requirements; and, WHEREAS, the City has coordinated with officials from the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) regarding further appropriate changes; and, WHEREAS, City Council deems it appropriate to adopt an ordinance making those changes; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS: Section 1. That the facts and recitations contained in the preamble of this ordinance are hereby found and declared to be true and correct. Section 2. That subsection (b) of Sec. 2-35 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Paris, Paris, Texas, be, and the same is hereby, amended so that such shall read as follows: "Sec. 2-35. Optional benefit package - Generally. " "(b) Eligibility for service retirement. Any member shall be eligible for service retirement at any age who has completed twenty (20) years of creditable service with this City or who has attained the age of sixty (60) years and has completed at least ten (10) years of creditable service with participating municipalities which have adopted the plan provisions of this section, or who has become eligible for service retirement under any other applicable provision of Subtitle G of Title 8, Texas Government Code." Section 3. That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby expressly repealed. Section 4. That this ordinance shall take effect immediately from and after its passage by the City Council. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 13th day of March, 2000. [{u/c-r.
