ORDINANCE NO. 2000-053
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS,
PARIS, TEXAS, PROVIDING THAT SECTION 11-12 OF THE CODE OF
ORDINANCES, CITY OF PARIS, BE AMENDED BY REVISING THE
ELECTRICAL PERMIT FEES FOR WHEN A BUILDING PERMIT IS NOT
REQUIRED; PROVIDING FOR A PENALTY NOT TO EXCEED $2,000.00;
REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN
CONFLICT HEREWITH; MAKING OTHER FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS
RELATED TO THE SUBJECT; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Paris, Paris, Texas, finds and determines that
significant costs are incurred by the City in processing permits and performing inspections under the
City's Electrical Code; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council deems it appropriate to assess a portion of those costs on the
parties seeking permits and inspections pursuant to said Code; and,
WHEREAS, the Texas Local Government Code, the City Charter, and the Constitution and
laws of the State of Texas authorize the City to assess fees and costs incident to the regulation of
electrical installations and systems within the City; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS,
TEXAS:
Section 1. That the findings set out in the preamble to this ordinance are hereby in all things
approved,
Section 2. That Section 11-12 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Paris, Paris, Texas,
be, and the same is hereby, amended to read as follows:
"Sec. 11-12. Permit and inspection fees when building permit is not required.
"(a) Before any permit is granted for installation, alteration, or repair of any
electrical wiring, devices, or equipment, the person making application for such
permit shall pay to the City a fee in the amount specified as follows, which fee shall
cover the cost of routine inspections required by this chapter:

"(8) For inspection of any installation, device or equipment not
specified above, the electrical inspector shall charge a fee of
$15,00; provided, however, there shall be no fee for a permit
covering not more than three (3) wall outlets,

"(b) If extra inspections are made necessary because the work is rejected on the first
inspection, a fee of twenty dollars ($20,00) shall be charged for each such extra
inspection,
"(c) The fees prescribed by this section shall apply if the application for the permit
is made prior to the beginning of any electrical work requiring a permit. If any work
is commenced without having procured a permit, the fee shall be double the amount
of the charges set forth above, for each day's delay in procuring the permit. The
payment of such additional fee shall not be a bar to a prosecution for violation of
section 11-9,"
Section 3. That any person violating any of the provisions of this ordinance shall be guilty
of a Misdemeanor and, upon conviction, shall be fined in any sum not to exceed $2,000,00, and each
and every day's continuance of any violation of the above-enumerated section shall constitute and
be deemed a separate offense.
Section 4. That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby
expressly repealed.
Section 5. That this ordinance shall become effective on December 1, 2000,
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 13th day of November, 2000,
