<br />AN ORDINANCE OF mE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS, DECLARING
<br />UNOPPOSED CANDIDATE IN DISTRICT 5 FOR mE MAY 1, 1999, GENERAL
<br />ELECTION ELECTED TO OFFICE; DETERMINING mAT NO ELECTION BE HELD
<br />IN DISTRICT 5; DIRECTING mAT A COPY O}-' THIS ORDINANCE BE POSTED AT
<br />APPROPRIATE POLLING PLACES; DIRECTING THA T CERTIFICA TES OF
<br />ELECTION BE ISSUED TO THE UNOPPOSED CANDIDATES; AND PROVIDING FOR
<br />AN EFFECTIVE DATE OF APRIL 12, 1999.
<br />
<br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Paris did heretofore, on the 8th day of
<br />February, 1999, in Resolution No. 99-020, order the regular municipal election for the City of
<br />Paris to he held on the 1st day of May, 1999, by the qualified voters in Districts 4, 5, and 7 of
<br />the City of Paris; and,
<br />
<br />WHEREAS, the City Clerk, Mattie Cunningham, being the authority responsible for
<br />having the official ballot prepared, has certified, in writing, that the candidate for District 5 is
<br />unopposed for election to office with no write-in candidates being declared and that there are no
<br />propositions to appear on the ballot; and,
<br />
<br />WHEREAS, under the authority granted in V.T.C.A., Election Code, Section 2.053, it
<br />is deemed appropriate that the candidate for District 5 be declared elected to office and that no
<br />election be held in that District; NOW, mEREFORE,
<br />
<br />BE IT ORDAINED BY mE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS,
<br />TEXAS:

<br />Section 1. That, for the May 1, 1999, general election, the candidate for District 5, John
<br />F. Bell, having been certified by the City Clerk as being unopposed for election to office with no
<br />write-in candidates being declared, be, and he is hereby, declared elected to office, which term
<br />shall begin on May 6, 1999.
<br />
<br />Section 2. That, in accordance with V.T.C.A., Election Code, Section 2.053, and
<br />because there are no propositions to appear on the ballot, it is hereby determined that no election
<br />be held in District 5.
<br />
<br />Section 3. That the City Clerk be, and she is hereby, directed to post a copy of this
<br />Ordinance on election day at the polling place that would have been used in the election.
<br />
<br />Section 4. That a certificate of election shall be issued to the candidate in the same
<br />manner as provided for a candidate elected at the election.
<br />
<br />Section 5. That this ordinance shall become effective on April 12, 1999.
