The Board of Adjustment meeting was called to order by Rick Hundley, Chairman, at
12:00 p.m.
A. The following members were present:
Rick Hundley
Jerry Haning
Charles Richards
Bryan Glass
Marilyn Smith
B. The following members were absent:
David Hamilton
Nathan J. Bell V
C. Also present was Shawn Napier, Director of Engineering, Planning and
Development; and Ashley Fendley, City Staff.
2. Election of Officers:
A. Chairman — Motion was made by Jerry Haning, seconded by Charles Richards to
nominate Rick Hundley as Chairman. Motion carried 5 -0.
B. Vice - Chairman — Motion was made by Charles Richards, seconded by Bryan Glass
to nominate Jerry Haning as Vice - Chairman. Motion carried 5 -0.
C. Secretary — Motion was made by Bryan Glass, seconded by Charles Richards to
nominate Nathan J. Bell V as Secretary. Motion carried 5 -0.
3. Approval of minutes from previous meetings. (May 7, 2013)
Motion was made by Bryan Glass, seconded by Marilyn Smith to approve minutes for the
May 7, 2013 meeting. Motion carried 5 -0.
4. Public hearing and consideration of and action on the petition Victron Stores, LP to grant
a variance of Section 28 -8(h) of the Sign Ordinance which provides that "total sign face
area of all permanent signs combined on one property, including ground signs, pole signs,
attached signs, etc. shall not exceed one (1) square foot per front foot of property line, or
maximum of the three hundred (300) square feet, at any time, " to allow a 7 square foot
variance over the maximum allowable signage, on Lot 4, being located in the 3000 Block
off. E. loop 286 The petition also requested a variance of Section 28 -9(n) of the Sign
Ordinance which provides that "Off- premises signs. No person shall place or maintain any
or maintain any off - premises sign other than a billboard as regulated herein, " to allow the
car wash changeable panel to be located in the Exxon pylon sign as an off premise sign, on
Lot 4, being located in the 3000 Block off .E. loop 286
Public hearing was declared open.
A. One individual spoke in favor of the petition.
Alex Pickering, owner of SCS Graphics, spoke in favor of the petition. Mrs.
Pickering stated that she was seeking approval for a variance to allow 7 square feet
over the maximum allowable signage and for an off - premises sign.
B. No one spoke in opposition.
Public hearing was declared closed.
Motion was made by Marilyn Smith, seconded by Bryan Glass to approve the variance
request. Motion carried 5 -0.
5. Public hearing and consideration of and action on the petition Tommy Bell (Representing
Paris Chevrolet) to grant a variance of Section 28 -8(h) of the Sign Ordinance which
provides that "total sign face area of all permanent signs combined on one property,
including ground signs, pole signs, attached signs, etc. shall not exceed one (1) square foot
per front foot of property line, or maximum of the three hundred (300) square feet, at any
time, " to allow a 65 square foot variance over the maximum allowable signage, on Lot 16,
Block 251 being located in the 1915 North Main Street.
Public hearing was declared open.
A. One individual spoke in favor of the petition.
Tommy Bell, with Barnett Signs, spoke in favor of the petition. Mr. Bell stated that
he was seeking approval for a variance to allow 65 square feet over the maximum
allowable signage.
B. No one spoke in opposition.
Public hearing was declared closed.
Motion was made by Charles Richards
, seconded by Jerry Haning to approve the variance request. Motion carried 5 -0.
6. Meeting adjourned at 12:12 p.m.
