10/17/2012 MINUTESParis Public Library Advisory Board Meeting Minutes October 17, 2012 Opening: The regular meeting of the Paris Public Library Advisory Board was called to order at 4:05 p.m. on October 19, 2012, in the Library Gallery by Linda Vandiver, Library Chair. Present: Pat Books, Linda Vandiver, Alice Woodard, Ann Norment, Fran Neeley, Deborah Hatley, and Library Director Priscilla McAnally. Also attending were Friends of the Library Co -Chair Amanda Green; Tracy Hoffart, Children's Librarian, and John Godwin, City Manager. I. Approval of Minutes The minutes of the previous meeting were unanimously approved as distributed. II. New Business A. Tracy Hoffart, Children's Librarian, presented a summary of her duties: coordinating children's programs, field trips, story times, hosting children's groups (presently preparing for 208 Head Start students), advertising and marketing children's programs, preparing flyers, decorating for the programs, customer service, shelving and other duties as required. B. In discussion of Sydney Young's review of Toni Morrison's book, the Board agreed it was an excellent review, with ten attending. It was suggested that she be asked to present another book in January, with the Friends possibly providing lunch. All agreed. III. Old Business A. Strategic Plan The Director distributed the revised plan, which she and the City Manager had worked out, reflecting a revised format. He suggested in the plan the possibility of relocating the genealogical library to the Library premises, and the Director addressed remodeling and using the basement for additional space. B. Book Drop The Board agreed the refurbished red book drop is tasteful and in keeping with the Historical District atmosphere. IV. Presentations A. Budget Report The Director presented the End of the Year budget summary showing that the Library came in under budget by $12,564.11, reflecting the conservative management philosophy of the Library. b. Statistical Report The FY 2012 totals showed slight decreases for the year. Circulation was down by 5.89% and Library Visits down by 3.18 %. V. Friends of the Library Dr. Green will contact Patti Staples regarding Gifted & Talented students in the Paris Independent School District obtaining library cards. F. Director's Remarks The November meeting was moved to November 28, at which time the Director will present an e- Resources review. The December meeting was set for December 19.
