11/20/2012 MINUTESMINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE MAIN STREET ADVISORY BOARD November 20, 2012 City Hall Council Chambers 107 E. Kaufman 4:15 p.m. Members Present: Absent Matt Coyle, Chairman Britin Bostick Ashlea Mattoon Casey Ressler Karie Raulston Cleonne Drake Jill Drake Fred Green Cheri Bedford Call to order at 4:08 Approval of minutes. Motion by Jill Drake second Fred Green Motion Carried 5 -0 Managers' report Update: received design rendering for Paris Community Theater Brown Creative Art Center. That Guys coffee also received a design rendering and is considering changes based on the recommendation. Festival of pumpkins was very successful. 8000 and 10,000 estimated turn out. Handed out applications to vendors for next year. The concert had good reviews, but not the anticipated attendance. Grand theater tours were also successful. Pumpkin patch was a great fundraiser. Sold $6500 worth of pumpkins, received 25% of sells with $400 in donations. Over 40 individuals and groups volunteered to run the patch. Downtown Trick or Treating successful, hundreds of people come downtown for this. Christmas tree lighting was successful. There was Santa, Reindeer, Carolers in vintage costumes. Estimated 500 attendees Community effort for the downtown tree: Keep Paris beautiful donated $1000, Art Alliance $750, Turner Pipe, Parks and Recreation, and Main Street, Traffic and Sanitation Dog dash - fundraiser for Lamar County Humane Associate and Salvation Army. It is at 10:00 a.m. December 8th. Followed by the wassail fest. Competition among the downtown businesses to taste test the wassail. Best wassail will receive a reward. Drawing for participants. Carriage rides, music, vintage carolers. Committee reports: Organization: No report Design: how to incorporate Eiffel tower downtown and is that feasible. Branding with Eiffle tower? Looking for ideas, Add a map /kiosk at the tower with downtown destinadon.ie viewing different points of interest. Promotions: No report Economic Restructuring: Defer discussion to Item 7 HPC -no report Chamber /VCC- Holiday in Paris November 30. Parade, play, carriage rides, home tour, dog dash, wassail fest, art walk, home tours. Shop local has begun. There have been 13 new chamber members due to the shop local. 6. Matt Requested review of Main Street with working update. Which responsible party and activity goals are most timely and what the progress is on the different objectives. Mission statement suggestions and changes will be voted on at our next meeting. Tours of Grand Theatre have been very successful. People have had a positive response. Cheri updated on the theater: The roof will be fixed. Paul Denny is developing a structural plan to reinforce the wall between theaters and L.O. Hammons property. Cheri is receiving her letter of support for the Brownfield grant. Request for Matt Coyle and Jill Drake to write a letter. Keep restroom as future agenda item, as well as removal of skate park. Cheri will discuss with parks department the plan for the skate park 7. Fred has emailed and placed a hard copy of the grant program for everyone to review. Fred called for a vote from the board to approve and send to the attorney. Fred would like to send this to the Meadows Foundation and we will need the exact number of the funds to do this. Fred and Cheri want to discuss with City Manager about funds How to announce? Press release and announcement. Fred is looking and walking the historic district to find tenants and owners. This has been on our work plan PDA $9000 match mostly came from the Bernie premiere. Fred would like to honor the pain family for their contribution with either a byline or name the grant after the pain family. Discussion was held as to how we would like to do that. Cheri discussed the PDA recommendation to call it the Judd Paine Grant. Group consensus was to give Judd Payne the byline for the 2013 BIG grant. ER will be working to prioritize the objectives. Matt stressed that there needs to be a timeline for all committees. How can we apply for a USDA revolving loan fund, or RBEG grant? Cheri recommends consulting with Kim Lacey who writes grants for the city of Paris. 8.
