07/19/2011 MINUTESMain Street Advisory Board Meeting July 19, 2011 City Council Chambers Members Present: Cheri Bedford Ashlea Mattoon Michael Cody Judge William Harris Britin Bostick Kari Daniel Dustin Lindsey Becky Semple Guests: Edwin Pickle Connie Beard Meeting called to order at 4:05 p.m. Ashlea Mattoon, secretary presided in the absence of Chairman, Matt Coyle. Ashlea welcomed new members Michael Cody and Judge William Harris. Cheri asked for them to give a brief introduction of themselves to the board. Meeting minutes for May 2011 (corrected) and June 2011 approved. Managers Report: 10 Criteria for National Recognition Main Street City requests a copy of each committee work plan. Cheri brought copies of the previous committee work plans, and asked each committee to review this month and make necessary adjustments to be submitted along with the 10 Criteria at the first of August 2011. These plans were updated in May of 2010, with the exception of Economic Restructure, who updated in August 2010 Loss of business, Covington Credit- moved out on 35 & 39 Lamar Ave., Richard Dixon is beginning some facade improvements to the building and will be requesting a Facade Grant at next HPC meeting. Other facade grants requested are Gary Waite, for 15- 1" SE/ 102 Lamar, New Businesses: Skinny Grill, on 136 Clarksville Street- Owner Kenya Edzards, Creative Candy Designs, 115 S. Main, owner Jennifer Bethea, Girls and Cake, 102 Clarksville, owner, Candace Mayer Randy Rader is snaking improvements to the facade of 7 E. Plaza, and is working on replacing windows in the top portion of the building based on Texas Main Street Design Renderings. Randy is requesting a facade grant at the next HPC meeting. Grand theater asbestos abatement will have to be rebid due to the fact that the contract person hired sent fax that he would be giving up contract. Bids begin on July 25. Peristyle- behind schedule. Committee Reports: Organization report:- No Committee Report Design: Dustin Lindsey: Reported that they met after several months of being off and began to review their work plans. One goal was discussion of window treatment in vacant store fronts, and will something they will be pursuing. Promotion: Kari: Movies in the Park going well, raised PDA has raised $1200 in concessions. There are three more movies to show. One was a make -up from a rain out. People's choice is George of the Jungle or Wizard of Oz. Promotions committee is becoming more involved with the Pumpkin festival, and has new ideas. Pumpkin carving contest, new kids area, chili cook off, and possible placement of Matt's beer garden or the Vault. Wii Tournament planned for September 10th, held at Modern Auto body- Cost is $20 per team/individual? Play station II already donated for prize by InParisTexas.com. Kari has purchased trophy. Economic Restructure: Britin: CAD file of downtown parcels, worked with Justin Oliver from Engineering, Mapped out of use of downtown, Revamping work plan Next meeting on July 21, that guys coffee. HPC= No report PDA -Kari Daniel. With money from concessions stand at MiP is developing a grant incentive as well to assist business owners with restoration, as well as pay for grass on plaza. 25 %grant /75 %grass division -$1200 so far.
