SPECIAL MEETING
CITY OF PARIS HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 2012
4:00 O'CLOCK P.M.
1. The Historic Preservation Commission meeting was called to order by Paul Denney,
Vice - Chairman at 4:03 p.m.
A. The following members were present:
Paul Denney, Vice - Chairman
Douglas Cox
Ben Vaughan
Nancy Anderson
Britin Bostick
David Stewart
B. The following members were absent:
Arvin Starrett, Chairman
C. Also present Cheri Bedford, Main Street Manager; and Jeanna Scott, Historic
Preservation Officer.
2. Approval of minutes from previous meetings. (February 8, 2012)
Motion was made by Ben Vaughan, seconded by Britin Bostick to approve the meeting
minutes for February 8, 2012. Motion carried 6 -0.
3. Consideration of and action on the following Certificate of Appropriateness:
A. 140 North Main Street — Carl Harcrow, property owner presented the petition.
Mr. Harcrow stated he was concerned the awning would fall because of the deterioration
of the wood portions of the structure; therefore he is proposing to remove the awning.
Mr. Harcrow will come back at a later date to get approval for the new awning.
Commissioners asked Mr. Harcrow what materials were used in the original construction
of the awning. Mr. Harcrow stated that currently it appears the awning was constructed
with plywood, two by four's, metal, with comp shingles on the roof portion. The awning
is very heavy which increases his concern that it could come down. Motion was made by
Ben Vaughan, seconded by Nancy Anderson to approve the COA. Motion carried 6 -0.
B. 504 Lamar Avenue — Glen Wark, contractor presented the petition. Mr. Wark
stated he was made aware he would need to come back for approval prior to installation
of the windows. Motion was made by Britin Bostick, seconded by Douglas Cox to
approve the COA. Motion carried 6 -0.
C. 101 Grand Avenue — Jennifer Hollje, business owner presented the petition. Ms.
Hollje stated need approval for signs for her new business. Motion was made by Britin
Bostick, seconded by David Stewart to approve the COA. Motion carried 6 -0.
D. 30015' Street S. W. — Sally Wright, Recreation Supervisor for the City of Paris
presented the petition. Ms. Wright stated that since the death of Gregory S. Rickets and
the dedication and renaming of the park, the graffiti artist have been spray painting the
park with signs like "rest in peace GSR ". Ms. Wright further stated we are trying to
curtail the graffiti by placing a sign directly on the half pipe in a graffiti style honoring
Gregory S. Rickets. It is our hope this will alleviate the graffiti that is going on. Angel
Cruz will be the artist who has agreed to do this for the city free of charge. Motion was
made by Britin Bostick, seconded by Nancy Anderson to approve the COA. Motion
carried 6 -0.
4. Future agenda items. There were none.
