REGULAR MEETING
CITY OF PARIS HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 13, 2011
12:00 O'CLOCK P.M.
1. The Historic Preservation Commission meeting was called to order by Arvin Starrett,
Chairman at 12:00 p.m.
A. The following members were present:

Susan Scholz, Secretary
Jerry Raper
B. The following members were absent:
C. Also present were Jeanna Scott, City Staff; and Cheri Bedford, Main Street
Coordinator.
2. Approval of minutes from previous minutes. (March 28, 2011)
Motion was made by Susan. Scholz, seconded by Matt Coyle to approve the minutes for
the March 28, 2011 meeting. Motion carried 7 -0.
3. Consideration of and action on the following Certificate of Appropriateness:
A. 812 South Church Street — Sam Bell Maxey House — Kaitlin Ammon represented
the petition. Ms. Ammon stated THC is changing the signs on a lot of the state
properties and this is the sign approved package Ben Vaughan expressed
concerns that the directional sign located north of the driveway entrance is too
close to the street. Jeanna Scott stated that the sign will have to be at least 15 feet
behind the curb according to the Sign Ordinance. Ms. Scott further stated that the
Sam Bell Maxey House will need to apply for a variance in order to place the sign
in that location. Ms. Ammon stated the large tree directly west of the proposed
sign has hindered the placement of the sign. Motion was made by Paul Denney,
seconded by Susan Scholz to approve the Certificate of Appropriateness
contingent on all signs meeting the sign ordinance. Motion carried 7 -0.
B. 102 Clarksville Street — Jennifer Martin- Jennifer Martin owner of Teens to Tots
represented the petition. Ms. Martin stated they are proposing a sign that will fit
the existing sign cabinet. Motion was made by Susan Scholz, seconded by Matt
Coyle to approve the Certificate of Appropriateness. Motion carried 7 -0.
4. Report, discussion and possible action on proposed changes to the Sign Ordinance
regarding the Historic District. Commissioners discussed holding a workshop dedicated
to reviewing and approving a recommendation to council to amend the existing sign
ordinance. The workshop will be held on Tuesday, May 17'�' at 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in
the Council Chambers. Commissioners requested the Main Street Board and Paris
Downtown Association be included.
