The Annual Civil Service Meeting was held Thursday, January 27, 2011. The meeting was called
to order by Vice - Chairperson Howard Corriston. Members present were Sims Norment, Howard
Corriston and Herbert Preston (new member), City Attorney Kent Mcllyar, Civil Service Director
Melba Harris, Police Chief Bob Hundley, Fire Chief Ronnie Grooms and Assistant Police Chief
Randy Tuttle.
Howard Corriston opened the floor for the nomination of a Chairperson. Sims Norment was
elected as Chairperson. Sims Norment then opened the floor for the nomination of a Vice
Chair. Howard Corriston was elected as Vice Chair.
The minutes of the October 20, 2010 meeting were read and approved by members present.
The Civil Service Commission scheduled April 28, July 28, and October 27 as their quarterly
meeting dates. Meetings will be scheduled @ 4 p.m.
Melba Harris gave the Civil Service Activity Report for 2010.
Bob Hundley discussed a proposed change in the police evaluation. He proposed a system that
more closely tracks the training that is given to the Field Training Officers. A motion was made
by Howard Corriston that the new evaluation system be approved. It was second by Herbert
Preston and it was unanimously approved.
The meeting was adjourned.
