REGULAR MEETING
CITY OF PARIS HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
MONDAY, NOVEMBER 23, 2009
4:00 O'CLOCK P.M.
1. The Historic Preservation Commission meeting was called to order by Arvin Starrett,
Chairman.
A. The following members were present:
Arvin Starrett, Chairman
Douglas Cox
Ben Vaughan
Jerry Raper
Matt Coyle
B. The following members were absent:
Susan Scholz, Secretary
Paul Denney, Vice - Chairman
C. Also present was Jeanna Scott, City Staff.
2. Approval of minutes from previous meetings. (November 13, 2009)
Motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes for the November 13, 2009
meeting. Motion carried 5 -0.
3. Consideration of and action on the following Certificates of Appropriateness:
A. Southwest Corner of Grand Avenue and 3rd Street S. W. — Major Ellis, Salvation
Army, presented the petition. Major Ellis stated the Salvation Army had purchased
the lot directly to the east of the current property. They are asking for the
commission's approval to remove the dilapidated structure that currently sits on this
property. Major Ellis further stated they will be using the lot as a parking area for the
Salvation Army Store, at this time he was also asking approval to add a section of
chain link fence where the building will be removed to secure the property. Motion
was made and seconded to approve the removal of the building only, the fence was
denied. Motion carried 5 -0.
4. Discussion of and possible action on ideas for handouts to local real estate agents and
Paris Downtown Associates on the role of HPC in regards to downtown. Ben Vaughan
presented ideas to the commission. No action taken.
5. Discussion of'the duties of members of the HPC. Commissioners discussed handouts.
6. Request for, future agendas. There were none.
Meeting adjourned at 4:20 p.m.
