CITY OF PARIS HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 14, 2009

1. The Historic Preservation Commission meeting was called to order by Arvin Starrett,
Chairman.
A. The following members were present:
Arvin Starrett, Chairman
Matt Coyle
Susan Scholz, Secretary
Paul Denney, Vice- Chainnan
Douglas Cox
Ben Vaughan
Jerry Raper
B. The following members were absent:
None
C. Also present was Jeanna Scott, City Staff.
2. Approval of minutes fi-om previous meetings. (September 28, 2009; October 2, 2009)
Motion was made by Susan Scholz, seconded by Matt Coyle to approve the minutes for
the September 28, 2009 and October 2, 2009 meetings. Motion carried 7 -0.
3. Consideration of and action on the.following Certificates ofAppropriateness:
C. 123 Clarksville Street — David Stewart — Mr. Stewart presented petition. Motion
was made by Susan Scholz, seconded by Jerry Raper to approve the COA. Motion
carried 7 -0.
B. 1051 Church Street — Casey Miears — Mr. Miears presented the petition. Motion .
was made by Susan Scholz, seconded by Paul Denney to approve the COA. Motion
carried 7 -0.
A. 401 ls` Street S. W. — Mary Ann Campbell — No one present. Motion was made by
Susan Scholz, seconded by Jerry Raper to table this item. Motion carried 7 -0.
4. Consideration of and action on the following Fagade Grants:
A. 1051 Church Street — Casey Miears — Mr. Miears presented the petition. Motion was
made by Paul Denney, seconded by Ben Vaughan. to approve the Fagade Grant.
Motion carried 7 -0.
5. Discussion of'and possible action on the renaming of the Visionaries Award.
Commissioners discussed renaming the Visionaries Award. Motion was made by Paul
Denney, seconded by Ben Vaughan to rename the award "The Hayden Award for
Historic Preservation ". Motion carried 7 -0.
6. Discussion of and possible action on making a contribution to the music system for- the
Downtown Plaza.
Commissioners discussed a contribution to the music system. Motion was made by Ben
Vaughan, seconded by Jerry Raper to donate $2,500.00 to the music system for the
Downtown Plaza. Motion carried 7 -0.
7. Discussion of and possible action regarding the following structures considered by code
inspectors to be in violation of Article III of Chapter 7 of'the Code of Ordinances of the
City of Paris, Paris, Texas, entitled "Substandard and Dangerous Buildings and
Structures, " to determine whether such buildings or structures can be rehabilitated and
designated on the National Register- of Historic Places, as a recorded Texas Historic
Landmark, or as historic property as designated by the City Council of the City of Paris:
A. 728 E. Austin; Lot 14, City Block 115
Motion was made by Ben Vaughan, seconded by Susan Scholz, to send structure to the
Building and Standards Commission for demolition since it cannot be rehabilitated nor
does it have significant historical value. Motion carried 7 -0.
8. Request items for.future agendas.
9. The meeting adjourned at 12:38 p.m.
