PARIS MUNICIPAL BAND COMMISSION

Meeting was called to order by Chairman Randy Bunch at 5:16 p.m.
Review and approval of Minutes from meeting held September 22, 2016. Two corrections were
made to the minutes in Item 4a:
a) a date listed as June 20th and was changed to June 30th,
b) Noted that season 2017 dates were listed not 2016.
Byron Myrick III made a motion to approve the minutes with corrections, second by Joe
Watson, motion carried.
Schedule for Practice and Concert- Dates looked good to everyone and Becky Semple /Cheri
Bedford confirmed they were on the calendar for Bywaters Park, and the Pavilion at the Love
Civic Center as a rain out plan. Becky told the commission about the car rally on the 9th of June
would be using the pavilion and suggested the High School be contacted as an alternate plan
should be researched just in case.
Music: Joe Watson and Byron Myrick will research and purchase new music for the 2017
season.
Advertisement: Everyone liked last year's poster. Cheri Bedford will contact Edwin Pickle to
check on the sponsorship of the poster and change the dates.
Logistics for set up: The commission discussed the difficulties they had with the U -Haul
company in town and discussed alternate possibilities for equipment trailer. Byron Myrick will
research the possibility of renting Paris High School trailer for the municipal band concerts and
get back with the commission in the March meeting.
Location of concerts: Joe Watson was concerned about the June 9th concert back up plan, and
will get with the Paris ISD superintendent, and make arrangements to use the PHS auditorium if
needed.
Review Budget for 2017 season: There was some confusion on the finances and budgeted
amount balances from previous years, and how to read the figures, so Randy Bunch asked Joe
Watson to get with Gene Anderson and ask him to help explain the details and report back to
the commission at the next meeting. It was also noted that in the code of ordinance for the
municipal band states that the commission should compile a budget request in June for the City
Manager for the next year's season. The commission will begin to prepare a budget including
the purchase of new music.
Other Discussion: Randy Bunch had some concerns about the dates for the following year and
the way the parks department made reservations. Cheri suggested that after the dates were
picked for the next year that there be a calendar reminder to call parks after the first of the
year and get the band schedule on the calendar for Bywater's Park.
The next meeting is set for March 23, 2017 5:15 p.m. in Council Chambers
Meeting adjourned at 6:00 p.m.
