Item No. 7 <br />memorandum <br />TO: Mayor & City Council <br />FROM: John Godwin, City Manager <br />SUBJECT: CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION APPOINTMENT <br />DATE: June 30, 2017 <br />BACKGROUND: Because our police and fire departments operate under a civil service system, <br />we are required to have a local three- member civil service commission. Members' terms vary in <br />length, so do not expire at one time. <br />STATUS OF ISSUE: Pursuant to Local Government Code § 143.006(b), the City Manager is <br />required to appoint commission members and City Council confirms the appointments. We <br />received four applications and after review of said applications, I wish to appoint Douglas Shuler <br />to this commission. <br />BUDGET: NA. <br />RECOMMENDATION: Confirm appointment of Douglas Shuler to serve on the Civil Service <br />Commission. <br />
