SUBJECT: CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION APPOINTMENT
DATE: June 30, 2017
BACKGROUND: Because our police and fire departments operate under a civil service system,
we are required to have a local three- member civil service commission. Members' terms vary in
length, so do not expire at one time.
STATUS OF ISSUE: Pursuant to Local Government Code § 143.006(b), the City Manager is
required to appoint commission members and City Council confirms the appointments. We
received four applications and after review of said applications, I wish to appoint Douglas Shuler
to this commission.
BUDGET: NA.
RECOMMENDATION: Confirm appointment of Douglas Shuler to serve on the Civil Service
Commission.
