The Board of Adjustment meeting was called to order by David Hamilton, Chairman at
12: 00 p. m.
A. The following members were present: David Hamilton, Louise Hagood, Jerry
Harting and Deanna Manning
B. The following members were absent: Marilyn Smith and Chris Fitzgerald
(Alternate Board Member)
C. Also present was Carla Easton, City Engineer; Ashley Stumpf, City Staff; Sue
Lancaster, City Council; and concerned citizens. .
2. Approval of minutes from previous meetings. (August 1, 2017)
Motion was made by Louise Hagood, seconded by Jerry Harting to approve minutes for the
August 1, 2017 meeting. Motion carried 4-0.
3. Public hearing and consideration of and action on the petition of Isidro Leon Hernandez
on Lot 2 A -S 54 PT of 3, Block 1, of the Highland Park Addition, being located at 315 S. E.
19`h Street. The applicant is requesting a variance of Section 9-501 of the Zoning
Ordinance which provides that "A Single -Family Dwelling District No. 2 (SF -2) requires a
minimum 25 foot front yard setback line. " The applicant is asking for a 23 foot variance in
order to construct a 35 foot carport. The carport would be approximately 10 foot from the
street curb.
Public hearing was declared open.
A. One individual spoke in favor of the petition.
Isidro Leon Hernandez, 315 S.E. 19th Street, Paris, Texas, spoke in favor of the
petition. Mr. Hernandez and his translator Marcelino Rodriguez stated he wants to
install a carport from his front door to the side property line 35ft by 20ft to the
Street.
B. No one spoke in opposition of the petition.
Public hearing was declared closed.
Ashley Stumpf, City Staff apologized to the board for the misinterpreted request from the
applicant. The Board of Adjustments had concerns about paving under the covered area
and recommended the applicant speak with the City. Motion was made by Jerry Harting,
seconded by Louise Hagood to deny the variance request and allow the applicant to apply
again with the correct information. Motion carried 4-0.
4. Meeting adjourned at 12:31 p. m.
