REGULAR MEETING
BUILDING AND STANDARDS COMMISSION
MONDAY, AUGUST 18, 2008
4:00 O'CLOCK P.M.
1. Ryan Lassiter called the Building and Standards Commission meeting to order at 4:00
P.M.
A. The following members were present:
Ryan Lassiter
Chris Brown
Harrell Tippitt
Vicki Ballard
Bill Harris
Zach Saffle
B. The following members were absent:
Lucius Joe, Jr.
2. Election of officers for the upcoming year:
a. Chairman — Motion was made by Ryan Lassiter to nominate Bill Harris as
Chairman, seconded by Harrell Tippitt. Motion carried unanimously.
b. Vice - Chairman — Motion was made by Ryan Lassiter to nominate Chris Brown as
Vice - Chairman, seconded by Vicki Ballard. Motion carried unanimously.
c. Secretary — Motion was made by Vicki Ballard to nominate Ryan Lassiter as
secretary, seconded by Bill Harris. Motion carried unanimously.
3. Approval of Minutes of previous meeting:
Motion was made and seconded to approve the meeting minutes for June 16, 2008.
Motion carried unanimously.
4. Public Hearing to consider presentations by City of Paris Code Inspectors and
owner(s) and /or lien holder(s) of the below properties who have been given notice of
a violation of Article III of Chapter 7 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Paris,
Paris, Texas, entitled "Substandard and Dangerous Buildings and Structures ":
A. 101 East Washington; West part of Lot 6, City Block 147 - Motion was made
by Vicki Ballard, seconded by Bill Harris to allow 30 days to demolish. If the
property is not demolished in 30 days, the City may demolish, with a $1,000 per
day civil penalty. Motion carried unanimously.
B. 606 East Grove; Lot 13, City Block 72 -A - Motion was made by Zach Saffle,
seconded by Vicki Ballard to allow 30 days to demolish. If the property is not
demolished in 30 days, the City may demolish, with a $1,000 per day civil
penalty. Motion carried unanimously.
C. 769 Ash; Lots 4 -A and 4 -B, Block 2, Pickard Addition - Motion was made by
Chris Brown, seconded by Zach Saffle to allow 30 days to demolish. If the
property is not demolished in 30 days, the City may demolish, with a $1,000 per
day civil penalty. Motion carried unanimously.
D. 8315"' Street N.E.; Lot 6 -C, City Block - Motion was made by Harrell Tippitt,
seconded by Chris brown to allow 30 days to demolish. If the property is not
demolished in 30 days, the City may demolish, with a $1,000 per day civil
penalty. Motion carried unanimously.
E. 7th Street N.W.; Lot 1 -A, City Block 98 - Motion was made by Chris Brown,
seconded by Harrell Tippitt to allow 30 days to demolish. If the property is not
demolished in 30 days, the City may demolish, with a $1,000 per day civil
penalty. Motion carried unanimously.
F. 701 E. Booth; Lot 10, City Block 63 -A - Motion was made by Vicki Ballard,
seconded by Zach Saffle to allow 90 days to demolish. If the property is not
demolished in 90 days, the City may demolish, with a $1,000 per day civil
penalty. Motion carried unanimously.
G. 250 Clement Road; Lot 4 -10, Block 25, Fairview Addition - Motion was made
by Chris Brown, seconded by Harrell Tippitt to allow 90 days to demolish. If the
property is not demolished in 90 days, the City may demolish, with a $1,000 per
day civil penalty. Motion carried 5 -0. Ryan Lassiter abstained.
H. 1685 10th Street N.E.; Lot 30, Block A, East Park Addition - Motion was made
by Harrell Tippitt, seconded by Chris Brown to allow 30 days to demolish. If the
property is not demolished in 30 days, the City may demolish, with a $1,000 per
day civil penalty. Motion carried unanimously.
I. 1450 10th Street N.E.; Lot 9, Block P, East Park Addition - Motion was made
by Zach Saffle, seconded by Harrell Tippitt to allow 30 days to demolish. If the
property is not demolished in 30 days, the City may demolish, with a $1,000 per
day civil penalty. Motion carried 5 -0. Bill Harris abstained.
J. 1467 10th Street N.E.; Lot 6, Block Q, East Park Addition - Motion was made
by Vicki Ballard, seconded by Zach Saffle to allow 30 days to demolish. If the
property is not demolished in 30 days, the City may demolish, with a $1,000 per
day civil penalty. Motion carried 5 -0. Bill Harris abstained.
K. 351 10th Street N.E.; Lot 8, City Block 67 -A - Motion was made by Chris
Brown, seconded by Harrell Tippitt to allow 30 days to demolish. If the property
is not demolished in 30 days, the City may demolish, with a $1,000 per day civil
penalty. Motion carried unanimously.
5. Meeting adjourned at 4:45 P.M.
