1. The Board of Adjustment ineeting ivas called to order by David Hanithon, Chairmanat
12:02 p, in.
A. The fcrllowing, members were present: David Hamilton, Louise Hagood, Jerry
Haning and Deanna Manning
B. The following members were absent: Marilyn Smith and Chris Fitzgerald
(Alternate Board Member)
C. Also present was Carla Easton, City Engineer; Stephanie Harris, City Attorney,.
Ashley Stumpf, City Staff, and concemed citizens. .

Motion was made by Louise Hagood, seconded by Jerry Haning to approve minutes for the
September 5, 2017 meeting. Motion carried 4-0.
3. Public hearing to consider qfand take action on the petition qfDivain, Howard on behalf'qt'
Linda Rodgers on Lot 10, Block A of the College Heights Addition, being located at 2340
Jackson Street.
A, Section 9-501 of'the Zoning Ordinance which provides that "A Single -Family
Dwelling District No. 2 (SF -2) requires a mininnun. 25 font front yard setback
line. "
The applicant is asking, for a 9foot setbackfi-om the property line in order to construct a
21' x 12' carport. The carport would be approximately 19.fbot from the back of the
curb.
Public hearing was declared open,
A. One individual spoke in favor of the petition.
Dwain Howard, 1202 Oak Hill, Murphy, Texas,, spoke in favor of the petition. Mr.
Howard stated Ms. Linda Rodgers wants to construct a 21' x 12' carport. They will
be constructing a new concrete driveway and hope to install a carport to make it a
safer environment for Ms. Rogers. Mr. Howard further stated he hope the board
will approve this variance request.
B. No one spoke in opposition of the petition.
Public hearing was declared closed.
Motion was made by Jerry Haning, seconded by Louise Hagood to approve the variance
request. Motion carried 4-0.
4. Public hearing to consider of and take action on, the petition of" Haresh Patel owner of
Paris Inn and Suites Motel on Lot 2', BlockA, of the Oak Ridge 318 addition, being located
at 3075 NE Loop 286.

Public hearing was declared open,
A, Two individuals spoke in favor of the petition.
Philip Smith, 1700 FM 1,95, Paris, Texas, spoke in favor of the petition. Mr. Smith
stated he represents liaresh Patel the owner of Paris Inn and Suites Motel. Mr,
Smith stated Mr. Patel purchased the property at 3075 NE Loop 28,6 with a. sign
easement with the property owners of 3055, NE Loop 286 to construct pole sign or
monument sign near NE loop 286. Mr. Patel was not aware the City of Paris Sign
Ordinance would not honor this sign easement between the two property owners.
Mr. Smith stated they are requesting for the board of adjustments to approve the
off-site signage to install a pole sign for better visibility for Paris Inn and Suites
Motel.
Chad Stephens, 1305 Lamar Avenue Suite B, Paris, Texas, spoke in favor of the
petition. Mr. Stephens stated that Mr. Patel has had several setbacks during his
development in regards to gas lines, drainage issues, and plan reviews. Mr.
Stephens stated he hopes the board will approve this sign variance due to visibility
issues.
B. No one spoke in opposition of the petition.
Public hearing was declared closed.
Motion was made by David Hamilton, seconded by Jerry flaning to approve the variance
request. Motion carried 4-0.
