11 - Fair Housing MonthItem No. I I TO: Mayor & Council John Godwin, City Manager FROM: Janice Ellis, City Clerk SUBJECT: FAIR HOUSING MONTH DATE: March l5, 2018 BACKGROUND: The City receives grant funds for home programs to assist citizens with housing. STATus OF ISSUE: As part of the special conditions under the City's grants that are funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Community Development Block Grant program, it is necessary that the City express its support for Title V111 of the Civil Rights Act of 1968 by adopting a proclamation declaring the month of April as Fair Housing Month in the City of Paris. 111"IN61419IM1124KI RECOMMENDATION: Approve a resolution declaring the month of April as Fair Housing Month. A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS, APPROVING A PROCLAMATION DECLARING THE MONTH OF APRIL AS FAIR HOUSING MONTH; MAKING OTHER FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS RELATED TO THE SUBJECT; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Paris supports Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968, popularly known as the Federal Fair Housing Act, which prohibits discrimination in housing; and, WHEREAS, the Mayor of the City of Paris has executed a Proclamation proclaiming the month of April as "Fair Housing Month" in the City of Paris which is attached hereto as Exhibit "A"; and, WHEREAS, the City Council hereby finds that it is in the best interests of the City of Paris and its citizens that the City Council show support of the Fair Housing law by approving said proclamation; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS: Section 1. That the findings set Out in the preamble, to this resolution are hereby in all things approved. Section 2. That the Proclamation proclaiming April as "'Fair Housing Month" in the City of Paris in the form shown in Exhibit "A" attached hereto, be, and the same is hereby, approved. Section 3.
