SUBJECT: APPOINTMENTS TO THE ZONING BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT
DATE: June 19, 2018
BACKGROUND: The Board of Adjustment is created by State Law and codified under Section
16-100 of the City Zoning Ordinance. This Section states in part: "there is hereby created a
Board of Adjustment consisting of five (5) mernbers, each to be appointed by resolution of the
City Council for a term of two years," The City Council may appoint two alternate members of
the Board of Adjustment who shall serve in the absence of one or more of the regular mernbers
when requested to do so by the Mayor or City Manager.
STATUS OF ISSUE: Currently the ten-ris of the five regular Board Members are expiring on
June 307. We have received applications from the following: Benny Plata, Beverly Johnson,
A.W. "Plug" Clem, David Hamilton (currently on the board), Chi -is Fitzgerald (currently on the
board), Louise Hagood (currently on the board), and Brady Fisher,
BUDGET: N/A
RECOMMENDATION. Approve a Resolution making, appointments to the Board. In order for
the terms to be staggered, it is recommended that three of the members be appointed to serve
two-year ten-ris and two of the members be appointed to serve one-year terms.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS,
APPOINTING FIVE MEMBERS AND TWO ALTERNATE MEMBERS TO THE
ZONING BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT OF THE CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS, IN
ACCORDANCE WITH SECTION 16 OF THE CITY ZONING ORDINANCE AND
THE CITY'S POLICIES AND PROCEDURES FOR STANDING BOARDS,
COMMISSIONS AND COMMITTEES; MAKING OTHER FINDINGS AND
PROVISIONS RELATED TO THE SUBJECT; AND PROVIDING AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Section 16-100 of the City of Paris, Texas Zoning Ordinance No. 1710
states in part that the Board of Adjustment shall consist of five (5) members, each to he
appointed by Resolution of the City council for a term of two years, and that the City
Council may appoint two (2) alternate members of the Board of Adjustment who shall
serve in the absence of one or more of the regular members when requested to do so by the
Mayor or City Manager as the case may be; and
WHEREAS, currently the terms of the five regular Board Members are expiring on
June 30.
WHEREAS, applications to fill the terms have been received from Benny Plata,
Beverly Johnson, A.W, "Plug" Clem, David Hamilton (current Board Member), Chris
Fitzgerald (current alternate Board Member), Louise Hagood (current Board Member), and
Brady Fisher.
WHEREAS, the alternate members to the Zoning Board of Adjustment are needed to
help form a quorum when some of the five regular members are not present; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
PARIS, TEXAS:
Section 1. 'That the findings set out in the preamble to this resolution are hereby in
all things approved.
,Section 2. That the following appointments are hereby made to the Zoning Board
of Adjustment: and shall
serve two-year terms and and shall
serve one-year terms, with and to
serve as alternate members for two (2) year terms.
Section 3. That this resolution shall be effective from and after its date of passage.
