1996-038-RES WHEREAS, ELECTION WAS HELD BY QUALIFIED VOTERS OF DISTRICTS 1, 2, 3 AND 6 RESOLUTION NO. 96-038 WHEREAS, an election was held by the qualified voters of Districts I, 2, 3 and 6 of the City of Paris, Paris, Texas, on the 4th day of May, 1996, for the purpose of voting for and electing the Councilmen from each of said Districts to serve as members of the City Council for the ensuing two (2) years, to-wit: I. Councilman From District One (I) 2. Councilman From District Two (2) 3. Councilman From District Three (3) 4. Councilman From District Six (6) WHEREAS, as required by Order of the District Court of the United States for the Eastern District of Texas, Paris. Division, in Civil Action No. P-75-3-CA, and as provided in the Charter of the City of Paris and the laws of the State of Texas wherein they do not conflict with said Order, such election was conducted and held at four (4) specified and designated polling places, that is one polling place in Districts I, 2, 3 and 6 and early voting of the City of Paris, Paris, Texas; and, WHEREAS, sealed returns of said election, made by the duly appointed and designated election officials of and for the four (4) respective voting boxes, have been made to the Mayor and City Council of the City of Paris, as required by law, which returns after due and deliberate review and canvass thereof, show the following results of said election, to-wit: (I) IN DISTRICT ONE (I) A TOTAL OF 194 VOTES WERE CAST FOR COUNCILMAN FROM DISTRICT ONE (I) AS FOLLOWS: District Absentee Total Charles Fulbright William A. Conder Write-In Candidate 87 8 o 90 9 o 177 17 o (2) IN DISTRICT TWO (2) A TOTAL OF 27 VOTES WERE CAST FOR COUNCILMAN FROM DISTRICT TWO (2) AS FOLLOWS: District Absentee Total Thetis L. Elder Write-In Candidate 23 o 4 o 27 o (3) IN DISTRICT THREE (3) A TOTAL OF 34 VOTES WERE CAST FOR COUNCILMAN FROM DISTRICT (3) AS FOLLOWS: District Absentee Total Millie McDonald Write-In Candidate 30 o 4 o 34 o NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, that from the above and foregoing canvass of the returns of the votes in the four (4) respective voting boxes in such election, it is declared and determined that Charles Fulbright is the person receiving the highest number of votes of the votes cast at such election for Councilman From District One (I), and is therefore elected to serve as Councilman From District One (I) and a member of the City Council of the City of Paris for the ensuing two (2) years; that Thetis L. Elder is the person receiving the highest number of votes of the votes cast at such election for Councilman From District Two (2), and is therefore elected to serve as Councilman From District Two (2) and as a member of the City Council of the City of Paris for the ensuing two (2) years; that Millie McDonald is the person receiving the highest number of votes of the votes cast at such election for Councilman From District Three (3), and is therefore elected to serve as Councilman From District Three (3) and as a member of the City Council of the City of Paris for the ensuing two (2) years; and that Charlie Neeley is the person receiving the highest number of votes of the votes cast at such election for Councilman From District Six (6), and is therefore elected to serve as Councilman From District Six (6) and as a member of the City Council of the City of Paris for the ensuing two (2) years. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Paris in regular session convened pursuant to the directions of the Election Code of the State of Texas, on this the 9th day of May, 1996. ~ -- Eric S.
