SUBJECT: CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION APPOINTMENT
DATE: October 18, 2018
BACKGROUND: Because our police and fire departments operate under a civil service system,
we are required to have a local three-member civil service commission. Members' terms vary in
length, so do not expire at one time. Pursuant to Local Government Code §143.006(b), the City
Manager is required to make appointments to the Commission, and the City Council confirms
said appointments.
STATUS OF ISSUE: Russell Figgins' current term will expire December 31, and he has
indicated he wishes to be re -appointed.
BUDGET: NA.
RECOMMENDATION: Re -appoint Russell Figgins to serve on the Commission.
