The December 12, 2018 minutes were approved by acclamation.
City Manager reviewed the HPC subcommittee revisions to the mural ordinance with the rest of
the Commission. After the brief discussion on the order of the Ghost mural maintenance
techniques, the commission unanimously supported the mural ordinance recommendations as
presented.
Commissioner Hider met earlier the week before with Cheri Bedford to discuss ideas for a meet
and greet for property owners in Church Streets historic district. The meet and greet would review
good historic preservation practices; explain certificates of appropriateness, design standards,
help educate the property owner about their residence with information already available.
The objective of the meeting will be to assist in creating a sense of pride for the residence,
understand the importance of good preservation practices, and develop shared goals for the
neighborhood to develop accountability. Commissioner Dux and other commissioners suggested
the meet and greet include Pine Bluff residents. Commissioner Hider agreed it was important to
reach out to Pine Bluff, but best to focus on issues on local landmark on Church Street district first
and then reach out to the Pine Bluff district. Sending out a newsletter was discussed as well. No
date was set for the meet and greet, but addresses for the local landmark district residents is
available. A subcommittee of Linda Vandiver, Randy Hider, and Glee Emmite will work on a
newsletter, preservation information, and set a date for a meet and greet.
Cheri gave information on up and coming events in downtown. She went over the renovations that
have been takingplace in downtown throughout 2018. No certificates of Appropriateness were
approved in house for December. The date to present historic preservation report and downtown
update to City Council is March 11, 2019.
Hearing no other business the meeting adjourned at 4:53 p.m.
