08/13/2019 MinutesPresent: Glee Emmite, Chair Carolyn Patterson John Brazile Laurie Redus Kaydee Tate William Walker Gina Crawford for Becky Semple REGULAR MEETING MINUTES MAIN STREET ADVISORY BOARD Tuesday, August 13 2019 4:30 PM Absent: Shelley McDowell Becky Semple Clayton Pilgrim — Council Liaison Cheri Bedford, Main Street Manager AGENDA 1. Glee Emmite called the meeting to order at 4:37 PM in the Paris City Council Chambers. 2. Citizens Forum — Robyn Huizinga, PJC Drama Director, expressed a desire for PJC drama students to make connections with the community and offered volunteer help as needed. She presented all board members with 2019 season passes for their theater performances. 3. July minutes — Minutes were emailed earlier to all board members and were available on the monitors for viewing. A motion to approve the July 9, 2019 minutes was made by John Brazile, second by Laurie Redus, motion carried. 4. Work plan & webpage review — Glee Emmite led the board in a review of accomplishments, changes and additions needed in the Main Street work plan to reflect the current status of work and goals. The webpage was viewed with updates noted by Cheri Bedford. Additional information will be added as it becomes available. William Walker volunteered to monitor a Snap Chat account which will provide more visibility on social networking. 5. Board Member updates - - Glee Emmite reported that the Mini -Golf Challenge and the Paris Bakery nominations have already been submitted to the Texas Downtown Association. • Laurie Redus is working on the nomination for the Paris Golf and Country Club in the Texas Treasures Business Award from the Texas Historical Commission. • John Brazile will be having a promotions meeting immediately following the Main Street meeting. 6. Coordinator's Report — Cheri Bedford reported the following. • The restoration of the Sky Chief mural is completed and went well. • The Texas Historical Commission quarterly meeting was held in the meeting room above the Paris City Council Chambers beginning July 171 for 4 days with approximately 50 people attending. The group toured some of the historic sites in Paris. • Bids for new sidewalks along North Main will go out soon with October as a possible start of the project. • Prime Time members have been making sparkle balls for downtown Christmas decorations. • The Historic Preservation Committee will have a meet -and -greet on August 25, 2019 for residents of the Church Street Historic District. • Volunteers are working on new downtown maps. • The Plaza expansion will likely begin in November. Twenty feet of green space will be added on all sides. • Destination Development Series: Sidewalk Dining Dos and Don'ts webinar will be shown 10:30 AM, August 21, 2019. • Festival of Pumpkin will be held October 26, 2019 in Bywaters Park. Volunteers are needed to work on entertainment, contests, kids' games and other ideas. • Jill Awtrey will be the volunteer coordinator again this year for Mannequin Night scheduled for October 19, 2019. She will be seeking volunteers for the event. • Christmas tree lighting will be November 23, 2019 on the Plaza. Ideas are needed to make it bigger and better. • Hatch Chile Fest is scheduled for August 31, 2019 at Market Square. Volunteer opportunities are listed on the Market Square FaceBook page. • Small Business Saturday Neighborhood Champion Campaign — Scheduled for the Saturday after Thanksgiving. • Gina Crawford from the Lamar County Chamber of Commerce reported that the Tour de Paris was very successful and had 1,032 riders this year. 7. William Walker made a motion to adjourn, second by Laurie Redus, motion carried. The meeting was adjourned at 5:30 PM.
