SUBJECT: APPOINTMENTS TO THE BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT
DATE: December 2, 2019
BACKGROUND: Policies and Procedures for Boards and Commissions, adopted by City
Council require that appointments be made at the second regular City Council meeting in June.
STATUS OF ISSUE: Appointments were made on June 24. At that time, one alternate position
was not filled due to lack of applications. Recently, one of the regular board members has been
absent due to illness so staff advertised for board vacancies. Since that time, staff received a
resignation from Board Member Louise Hagood. Currently we have two vacancies, one for a
regular position and one for an alternate position.
BUDGET: N/A
RECOMMENDATION: Approve a Resolution appointing Jerry Harting to serve the unexpired
term of Ms. Hagood and Jathen Donaldson to serve in the alternate position.
RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS,
APPOINTING A MEMBER TO FILL THE UNEXPIRED TERM OF LOUISE
HAGOOD AND AN ALTERNATE MEMBER TO FILL A VACANCY TO THE
BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT OF THE CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS, IN ACCORDANCE
WITH SECTION 16 OF THE CITY ZONING ORDINANCE AND THE CITY'S
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES FOR STANDING BOARDS, COMMISSIONS
AND COMMITTEES; MAKING OTHER FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS
RELATED TO THE SUBJECT; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Section 16-100 of the City of Paris, Texas Zoning Ordinance No. 1710
states in part that the Board of Adjustment shall consist of five (5) members, each to be
appointed by Resolution of the City council for a term of two years and two (2) alternate
members for a term of two years; and
WHEREAS, currently the Board of Adjustment has a vacancy of the unexpired term
of Louise Hagood; and
WHEREAS, currently the Board of Adjustment has a vacancy of one alternate
member; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
PARIS, TEXAS:
Section 1. That the findings set out in the preamble to this resolution are hereby in
all things approved.
Section 2. That the following appointments are hereby made to the Board of
Adjustment: Jerry Haning shall serve the remainder of the unexpired term of Louise Hagood
and Jathen Donaldson shall serve a two-year term as an alternate member of the board.
Section 3. That this resolution shall be effective from and after its date of passage.
