1991-006-RES WHEREAS, there is now pending before the Texas Highway Commission a proposal known as the "Green

WHEREAS, there is now pending before the Texas Highway
Commission a proposal known as the "Green Carpet Route" for
increasing traffic capacity on U. S. Highway 271 by
completing to a four-lane highway all sections of its route
from the Texas Gulf Coast to Paris, Texas; and,
WHEREAS, the East Texas/Gulf Highway
almost twenty years has been dedicated to

WHEREAS, completion of the Route is within three
priorities of reaching its goal: 1) four lanes - three miles
on U.S. 271 (Mount Pleasant to Franklin County Line); 2) four
lanes - 47 miles on U.S. 271 (Franklin County Line to Paris);
and 3) a single route designation for the entire route; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Paris has
continued its support of the twenty seven year effort of the
East Texas Gulf Highway Association; NOW THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS,
that the three priorities for completion of the "Green Carpet
Route", being: 1) four lanes - three miles on
U.S. 271 (Mount Pleasant to Franklin County Line); 2) four
lanes - 47 miles on U.S. 271 (Franklin County Line to Paris);
and 3) a single route designation for the entire route, are
hereby endorsed for approval by the State Highway Commission.
