1988-085-RES WHEREAS, the Texas Department of Health, originally funded by the U. S. Department of Agricultural, RESOLUTION NO. 88-085 WHEREAS, the Texas Department of Health, originally funded by the U. S. Department of Agricultural, has initiated cost saving measures that allow expansion of the Special Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC); and, WHEREAS, the program's expansion has been made possible at no additional cost to the taxpayers; and, WHEREAS, the statewide expansion efforts enable the Paris/Lamar County WIC Project to serve 200 additional citizens of Lamar County; and, WHEREAS, the WIC Program provides low-income women, infants, and children under age five, who are at nutritional risks, with supplemental foods, nutrition education, and referral to health care; and, WHEREAS, the WIC Program has been proven effective for the prevention of nutrition-related health problems such as anemia, toxcemia, premature and low-birth weight infants, and other maternal and pediatric illnesses; and, WHEREAS, the health of mothers, babies, and children of Lamar County is of utmost priority; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED That the City Council of the City of Paris be on record that it supports the WIC Program and that AUGUST 1988 be called Women, Infants, and Children's Nutritional Month, and direct all citizens of Lamar County to support the expansion of the WIC Program as a vital assistance to the women, infants and children of Lamar County.
