SUBJECT: APPOINT MEMBERS TO THE CHARTER REVIEW COMMISSION
DATE: August 23, 2021
BACKGROUND: At the meeting of August 9, 2021, the City Council approved an Ordinance
determining a need for a formal review of the City's Charter, which included qualification of
Commission Members and the selection of 15 members. Qualifications were voted upon that
required the members to be registered voters of the City and excluded former and current
employees, as well as former and current City Council Members.
STATUS OF ISSUE: Following discussion and a vote, it was decided that each City Council
Member would appoint two members to the Commission, and those members could either be from
their district or citywide. It was a consensus of the City Council that the Mayor and Mayor Pro -
Tem would select the fifteenth member.
BUDGET: Tonight's action is to consider and make appointments to the Charter Review
Commission, and does not have a budget requirement.
RECOMMENDATION: Appoint fifteen members to the Commission and select a chairperson to
lead the Charter Review Commission.
