SUBJECT: PUBLIC HEARING ON PROPOSED 2022-23 TAX RATE

BACKGROUND: A public hearing on the proposed City tax rate is required by Chapter 26 of the
Texas Tax Code. On August 22nd the City Council approved a resolution calling for a public
hearing on the 2022-23 City tax rate on September 12th. A legal notice advertising the public
hearing was published in the Paris News. A copy of the proposed tax rate was placed on the City
website. Also, the required quarter page notice of the public hearing on the tax increase was
published in the Paris News.
STATUS OF ISSUE: The City Council needs to hold the public hearing on the 2022-23 City tax
rate on September 12, 2022. Pursuant to State Law (S132) the tax rate cannot be adopted the same
night as the public hearing. A special meeting is scheduled for September 13th to adopt the tax rate.
BUDGET: N/A
RECOMMENDATION: Hold the public hearing on the proposed 2022-23 City tax rate.
