1984-089 - A. M. Aikin, Jr., dedicated his life to the general welfare of the State of Texas, and particularlyRESOLUTION NO. 84 -089 WHEREAS, A. M. Aikin, Jr., dedicated his life to the general welfare of the State of Texas, and particularly to this portion of the State during the several decades he served as a member of the State Legislature; and, WHEREAS, the said A. M. Aikin, Jr., actively and aggressively supported education and sought out solutions which contributed toward the improvement of the area thereby greatly benefiting the residents of the City of Paris; and, WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that A. M. Aikin, Jr., be long remembered for his honorable public service; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that as a gesture of appreciation on the part of the City of Paris, State Highway 24 through the city limits of Paris, Texas, be named A. M. Aikin, Jr. Boulevard; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that appropriate ceremonies attending the naming of the highway be planned to take place as early as possible; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that special efforts will be made to obtain favor from the Texas Department of Highways and Transportation Board of Commissioners towards the naming of the remaining section of Highway 24 from Paris to Commerce, Texas, and Highway 50 from I -30 to Commerce, Texas, as A. M. Aikin, Jr. Memorial Highway; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor of the City of Paris, Texas, ,Toe Graham, be authorized and he is hereby authorized to execute this Resolution; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk, H. C. Greene, be, and he is hereby authorized and directed to furnish certified copies of this Resolution to the Texas Department of Highways and Transportation Board of Commissioners and to other official boards along the route with request that a united effort be recorded on this action.
