SUBJECT: APPOINTMENTS TO THE BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT
DATE: June 26, 2023
BACKGROUND: The Board of Adjustment is created by State Law and codified under Section
16-100 of the City Zoning Ordinance. This Section states in part: "there is hereby created a
Board of Adjustment consisting of five (5) members, each to be appointed by resolution of the
City Council for a term of two years." The City Council may appoint two alternate members of
the Board of Adjustment who shall serve in the absence of one or more of the regular members
when requested to do so by the Mayor or City Manager.
STATUS OF ISSUE: Currently the terms of the two of the regular board members (Ruth Ann
Alsobrook & Larry Walker) and one two alternate board members (Alii Putnam and Sequoia
Bruce) are expiring on June 30. We have received applications from the following: Ruth Ann
Alsobrook, Alix Putnam, Ben Vaughan, and Larry Walker.
BUDGET: N/A
RECOMMENDATION: Approve a Resolution appointing/re-appointing two regular board
members and two alternate board members.
RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS,
APPOINTING TWO REGULAR MEMBERS AND TWO ALTERNATE
MEMBERS TO FILL EXPIRED TERMS ON THE BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT IN
ACCORDANCE WITH SECTION 16 OF THE CITY ZONING ORDINANCE AND
THE CITY'S POLICIES AND PROCEDURES FOR STANDING BOARDS,
COMMISSIONS, AND COMMITTEES; MAKING OTHER FINDINGS AND
PROVISIONS RELATED TO THE SUBJECT; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, Section 16-100 of the City of Paris, Texas Zoning Ordinance No. 1710
states in part that the Board of Adjustment shall consist of five (5) members, each to be
appointed by Resolution of the City council for a term of two years, and two (2) alternate
members for terms of two years; and
WHEREAS, currently the terms of two of the regular board members (Ruth Ann
Alsobrook and Larry Walker) and two alternate board members (Alix Putnam and Sequoia
Bruce) are expiring on June 30, 2023; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
PARIS, TEXAS:
Section 1. That the findings set out in the preamble to this resolution are hereby in
all things approved.
Section 2. That the following appointments are hereby made to the Board of
Adjustment: _.._ and n . �.... ....._mm as regular members
to serve two year terms ending on June 30, 2025. _ and
to serve as alternate members for two year terms ending June 30,
2025.
Section 3. That this resolution shall be effective from and after its date of passage.
